Therapeutic Curriculum

Therapeutic Curriculum

Due to the complex needs many young people present with who are referred to us, My Oasis recognises that no one therapeutic approach ‘fits all’. We therefore offer a range of evidence-based psychotherapies, interventions and counselling approaches to ensure that we can meet the holistic needs of all students referred to us. Our interventions and the therapies employed are based on research and the findings of developmental and neurodevelopmental psychology. Suggestions as to which therapeutic approach might be most appropriate will be provided following a student’s comprehensive mental health and behavioural assessments.

Examples of some of the psychotherapies, interventions and counselling approaches used within My Oasis are outlined below:

  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy (commonly referred to as CBT). We also offer trauma-focused CBT within the provision.
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Art Therapy
  • Person-Centred Counselling
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
  • Sensory Profiling Assessments and Plans
  • Compassionate based approaches, such as compassionate mind therapy.
  • Equine and Small Animal Therapy
  • Skills-Based Targeted Interventions
  • Wider school community opportunities
  • Active and Outdoor Learning
  • Comprehensive and Appropriate PHSE/RSE program
  • Tailored Life Skills and Preparing for Adulthood Program that includes access to the wider community.

Routine Outcome measures are regularly distributed to students to review their progress, gather feedback on the sessions and to ensure the therapeutic and academic curriculum provided is still in line with their needs and long-term goals.
