At My Oasis, our innovative, personalised and needs-led curriculum, is also specifically developed to overcome barriers to a student’s learning and individual progress. Using robust holistic assessments, we personalise each young person’s curriculum to ensure they receive the right combination of therapy and academic study to ensure they have the tools and resources required to prepare them for adulthood.
Although most student’s personalised timetables are in line with the outcomes outlined within their EHCP’s, students also can undertake a solely academic or therapeutic placement with us at My Oasis depending on their needs, the length of time they are with us, as well as their future career aspirations.
The overall purpose of our academic and therapeutic curriculum is to equip young people with the necessary skills and therapeutic strategies to support their development into adulthood. We encourage them to achieve the best that they can do in line with their interests and long-term life goals.
We want our students to become:

My Oasis promotes British values through our broad and balanced curriculum. We are committed to serving our community and recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within the therapeutic provision are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.
Teaching staff at My Oasis are qualified teachers within their specialist subjects or have specialist expertise and experience in the sector they teach. Curriculum leads are established for core subject areas, and the curriculum is regularly challenged by the governing board and leadership team. Frequent quality assurance checks of the curriculum ensure we are continuing to meet the needs of the students at My Oasis and are constantly striving to improve, adapting our curriculum where required following any updates to government legislation and expectations.
Accredited and unaccredited vocational programs are available for students to study at My Oasis, including onsite Hair & Beauty, Kickboxing and Expressive Arts. We have also established close links with local businesses to ensure students can undertake vocational work placements and further qualifications of interest to them, such as construction, dog training or equine studies.
Staff at My Oasis places a strong emphasis on the importance of keeping well physically, recognising the huge role this plays in positively promoting a young person’s health. We therefore offer various indoor and outdoor physical activities for students to become involved in, ranging from more general activities such as walking or hiking, to more specialist physical activities such as kickboxing, horse-riding and yoga. Weather permitting, students have previously taken part in activities such as climbing, mountain biking, forestry, paddle-boarding, as well as kayaking during their placements with us at My Oasis.
Our outdoor educational programme allows students to explore the local area with staff in a safe and supported way, helping them to appreciate the benefits of the great outdoors and find activities which are of interest to them. These activities not only aim to benefit a student’s health, but are designed to develop problem-solving, team-building, and social skills, as well as build confidence in a young person by encouraging them to push themselves out of their comfort zone by trying new things. Providing these opportunities also encourages young people to become more aware of any issues within their environment and how they can work together with the local community to help rectify any of these.
A varied creative curriculum is promoted to students attending My Oasis, not only to students with a strong interest in expressive arts, but also to all young people as a way of encouraging the expression of emotions when often they struggle to put into words and communicate how they feel. The art and design curriculum on offer allows students to investigate sources of ideas in art and design, explore and use various art materials and techniques, as well as explore 2D and 3D visual communication. Our creative curriculum also now offers qualifications in practical, design technology-based subjects, such as textiles and food technology.
The development of functional life skills to support students in their journey into adulthood is one of the main areas My Oasis promotes. Our aim is to enable each student to lead a fulfilling and substantially independent life, reaching their full potential Our approach to teaching functional and life skills is at the core of our curriculum and these opportunities are provided to students through access to our Therapeutic Curriculum (see below).
At My Oasis we cover a full RHSE curriculum which is in line with the National Curriculum and includes key topics essential for students to learn about. Within our PHSE and RSE curriculums, promoting positive mental health and wellbeing is a topic which is heavily weighted upon at My Oasis, with students regularly being taught self-regulation strategies and learning ways to cope with any SEMH issues they are experiencing.
Through our curriculum at My Oasis, we also cover the development of further vital life skills, such as educating young people on how to manage their finances by providing financial literacy skills, completing a First Aid course or developing critical thinking skills through media literacy lessons and discussions. This is in addition to supporting students in becoming more independent in and outside of school, as well as encouraging them to carry out charitable and voluntary work within their local community.
